Cosmetic dermatology is no longer a service, it’s a collaboration — one that is holistic and patient-centric, not transactional. At Humphrey Cosmetic Dermatology we believe in evaluating the whole patient, from their anatomical makeup, to their lifestyle and specific aesthetic goals, in order to develop highly-personalized 360° programs that achieve natural results. For us, it’s about leveraging all of the tools at our disposal in conservative steps over time to yield cumulative benefits.
Before building any 360° plan, we take the time to listen and understand patient desires. We’ll work to understand how each individual wishes to look and feel as they age, and to communicate our philosophies as providers. When patients leave our office, we want them to love the way they look, but more importantly, the way they feel.
Where to start?
There is a plan for every patient, but often when we refer to the basics in prevention or positive aging plans, we recommend the following:
1. An evidence-based, customized skincare program is appropriate for everyone, from the newbie to the truly advanced patient. Challenge yourself to commit to a program for 90 days; it takes 28 days for your dermis to turn over, and improvements to pigment or collagen depend on the upregulation of gene expression, which takes time.
2. Conservative neuromodulator… aka “Baby Botox.” Botox is a type of neuromodulator that relaxes facial muscles, and the term “baby” makes reference to a conservative approach that delivers natural-looking results while preserving authentic facial expression. This treatment works very well in the short term, but the real magic occurs with conservative treatments over time; that’s when we begin to leverage the long-term preventative and cumulative effects.
3. A conservative complexion treatment like IPL or Clear + Brilliant. Each of these treatments target early signs of aging and photodamage to visibly improve the health of your skin; our team can assist you in choosing the modality that’s right for you. With either of these treatments, we often recommend a few treatments in a row to start, and then twice per year for maintenance.
We believe in the power of combination treatments. Each of these tools work together to harness cumulative and preventative effects over time.
