New at HCD: Microneedling + PRP
Microneedling has long been one of our favourite complexion treatments. Because it’s minimally invasive, safe for most skin types, and effective in treating conditions from skin texture and fine lines to discolouration and acne scars, it’s quickly become one of our patients’ favourites as well.
Microneedling is a convenient and versatile treatment that employs tiny needles to cause microchannels in the surface of the skin. This stimulates the release of growth factors and induces collagen and elastin production. The result is plumper, healthier-looking skin with fewer pores, fine lines, wrinkles and scars. Often performed on the face, microneedling is also an effective treatment for the skin on the neck and chest, or areas that require textural improvement.
Boost your microneedling treatment with autologous (from you) platelet-rich plasma.
Microneedling treatment outcomes are enhanced by the addition of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The addition of PRP expedites healing and enhances the effects of microneedling to further stimulate collagen, rejuvenate the skin, and more effectively treat fine lines, textural changes, and acne scarring. Microneedling + PRP can also help improve skin elasticity.
The PRP process begins with a blood draw. Our nurses then spin your blood in a state-of-the-art centrifuge in order to extract coveted growth factors and nutrients. This platelet-rich plasma—also known as “liquid gold”—is then applied to the surface of your skin during your microneedling treatment to achieve maximum benefit.
As with any microneedling treatment, temporary redness and irritation are possible in the 24-48 hours following treatment, but long term side effects are uncommon. Recovery from microneedling treatments is very well-understood and reasonably predictable. In general, this treatment is very well tolerated and can be tailored to your unique comfort and skin concerns.
